Black Sheep – Riggwelter

Strong and dark, and I am sure if you drank enough of them you would be “as the name suggests”. . . Those that know, know.

I’ve been drinking it for years, its my staple from this brewery. Never disappointed.

Sampled from: Bottle and Tap

ABV – 5.7%

Would I recommend? Yep

Would I buy again? Regularly

Rating: 4/5

Adnams – Broadside

This is one of my go-to beers.

its strong, dark amber in colour, very tasty and just a generally really nice pint. Nothing particularly special about it, but its a staple 😉

Sampled from: Can and Tap

ABV – 6.3%

Would I recommend? Totally, just give it a try.

Would I buy again? No doubt.

Rating: 4/5

Brew York – Brownie Pints

Wow. . . Just Wow!

This beer tastes amazing. . . Like all Brew York beers, It is like Ronseal of the beer world, does exactly what it says on the tin. . . It tastes exactly like Chocolate, Hazlenut Brownies, but it gets you wrecked! Whats not to love?

Sampled from: Can

ABV – 7.5%

Would I recommend? Absolutely, just get it down you!

Would I buy again? Undoubtedly.

Rating: 5/5

Fierce – Dirty Sanchez

This is an interesting one. Its a Smoked Chipotle Porter.

Now I have tried a number of chilli flavoured beers in the past as I love hot foods, curries etc. and many a time I have been bought the novelty gift packs at Christmas where you get three beers ranging in strength of “hotness”. They’re basically all crap, and provide instant heartburn. That said, I have never wasted a drop, they are perfect for reducing in mince to make a really nice chilli con carne ;-).

Now. . . this is different. . .

First thing that hits you is the smokiness. . . its very savoury in flavour. The chilli kick comes afterwards, but is kind of warming, not too dissimilar to that of a fortified wine, think port / sherry, it makes you feel warm and fuzzy, not heart burny. . .

Sampled From: Can

ABV – 6.5%

Would I recommend it? – Definitely give it a try unless you are a baby belly and cant handle spice.

Would I buy it again? Probably not. . . But great to have tried.

2/5

St. Peters – Plum Porter

This is a very drinkable porter, nice and fruity, but not too sweet or sickly. Could easily sink a few of these on the bounce.

Its very tasty and not too heavy.

Sampled from: Bottle

ABV – 5%

Would I recommend it? – Absolutely, give it a shot.

Would I buy it again? – Definitely, and I continue to do so. . . Its not an every week beer, but maybe 3 – 4 times a year, Deffo.

Where do I buy it? – Morrisons tend to stock it, certainly around here.

Morning All. . .

Long have I fantasised and mused about the possibility of running a blog, but never have I been able to think of a subject I think people would be interested in.

However, whilst sat with a pint one day, and making notes about this particular beer (a sad habit I have become accustomed to), I decided that you know what. . . With there being such a huge choice out there these days, so many craft breweries popping up all over the place, never has there been a more exciting time to try new, weird and wonderful brews.

Equally, there are so many bog standard, run of the mill beers out there since the introduction of more and more hipster IPA’s that all taste very similar (one of the reasons I am not a fan of lager). . . Hopefully I can bring you some honest critique.

I havent really decided on a format for this yet, but my plan is to effectively just review different beers, with a simple scoring chart based on how I find them, with a few notes around the flavour etc. I am NOT going to be getting all poncy about it.

If its of use to anyone, great, if not. . . Its just a reference for myself, so that I know what I like and dont. . . Lifes too short to be drinking shite beer more than once!
